The new Google Toolbar has a blog this button that is hard coded to work with Blogger. This seems inevitable, but also sad. It would be very cool if someone could hack this to work with other blogging systems.

Have a bookmarklet.
javascript:l = escape(location.href); t = escape(document.title); window.open(‘http://new.blogger.com/blog_this.pyra?source=toolbar&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&u=’+ l + ‘&n=’ + t, ‘blogthis_add’,’height=370,width=560,title=no,location=no,scrollbars=yes,menubars=no,toolbars=no,resizable=yes’); void 0
Posted by: Iain on June 26, 2003 12:29 PMAny MT install will make a bookmarklet for you (wish it worked in Safari). I don’t really see the point of the google toolbar anyway, even on my PC systems.
Sorry to rain on your parade. ;)
Posted by: scH on June 26, 2003 10:41 PMAlot of the features in the Google Toolbar are already available for Mozilla (Firebird, at least). There’s a built in search option, and you can use MyCroft to grab other engines for it. Popup blocking and auto complete can be turned on. And in many blogging programs, a bookmarklet can be created and dragged directly to your links bar on your browser for easy access to posting. :)

Posted by: Richard on July 2, 2003 09:04 AM1. Dump MSIE (with the Googlebar in it)
2. Use Mozilla (see kristine’s comment)
3. Start a project for a Mozilla Blog-Bar, where each vendor
would contribute their own posting support (I bet someone is already doing it)
4. Enjoy (It takes some time, like any good dish)
Google is the talk of the blogosphere. Owner of blogger, and a new toolbar that allows direct posting to blogger, Google is acting more and more like a Microsoft of the internet age in its attempts to control our browsing,...Read more here
Richard: Not that I would condone or advise or recomend or tell anyone to do this, but don’t you think a majority of people really don’t care about what google says you can and cannot do with their software? If google was sure that people would obey what their terms of use are, then they wouldn’t go to the trouble of encoding certain parts of it, such as the Bl00ger feature.
Posted by: Andrew on July 10, 2003 10:38 AMThere’s a google toolbar for Mozilla, for those who mentioned it- the address is http://googlebar.mozdev.org and it’s a completely separate project from Google’s IE toolbar. If anybody can find a nice configurable bit of javascript code that’ll let the user use the “blog this” button for any blog, I could bring up the matter of adding it to a future Googlebar release in mozilla.
